Gänsbrunnen – Ridge path to the Walenmattweid – Gr. Malsenberg – Harzer – Hint. Brandberg – Mieschegg Kapelle – Ob. Tannmatt – Chüematt/Tuffbrunnen – Wolfsschlucht
Here you will find the Thal Nature Park, nestled in the mountain ranges of the Solothurn Jura between Weissenstein and Wasserfallen. Lets start out with a circular tour on the hill tracts above Welschenrohr.
From Gänsbrunnen on the Malsenberg Street, walk into the forest. After 120 meters turn left and follow the forest path to Krete on the cantonal border. Walk uphill for an hour, accompanied by spectacular deep views onto the rail line and in the direction of Moutier. On the Walenmattweid, a pasture, you will have reached the highest point. We’ll now hike from one Jura mountain inn to the next past the picturesque Plague Chapel (Pestkapelle) on the Mieschegg and as far as the Ob. Now proceed to Talmatt, a farm that also boasts an inn. Descend the trail on the left at the Tannmattchopf, walk through the impressive Wolfsschlucht (Wolves Gorge) and onto the cantonal road, which offers a bus service linking Balsthal – Gänsbrunnen.
We recommend the narrow forest trails instead of the access roads (motor roads) leading to the farmsteads. In summer, there is a Bus starting at Ob. Tannmatt (and from Brunnersberg).
