Oldest Tell frescoes in Switzerland

The "Tell House" was built in 1576 by the dairy farmer Hans Folcken as a home, inn and warehouse. The main façade is resplendent with the oldest dated William Tell frescoes. The farmer had them painted in 1578 in honour of the delegates from Central Switzerland who stayed with him on their way back from the renewal of the federation with the people of the Valais. They show the shooting of the apple, the swearing of the Rütli oath and the fall of Gessler.
