Rothwald - Brig-Belalp

Even in the 21st century, millions of people around the world still do not have access to fresh and uncontaminated drinking water. The precious life-giving substance – water – is still overabundant and fresh here in the heart of the Swiss Alps. The water melts from our glaciers and after a long journey through layers of granite emerges pure and fresh from our faucets. In the hiking-paradise Rosswald is where the water is traveling through the said layers right now.
Summer
Hike from the Rosswald along the Ganter valley to the Bortel lodge. The renovated lodge welcomes guests through the months of June to October. The hike continues another six hours to the destination Wasenalp.
Winter
In our hectic times, islands of peace and rejuvenation are more important than ever - far
away from the noise of the metropolitan areas, the stress on the job and traffic and mass
transit. Many of us are looking for a special place to spend our holidays where time and the
world stand still. A quiet place also that is aside from the main winter tourist centers, which
most often ominously resemble mass transit. In the middle of the Simplon area, Rothwald with the Wasenalp is a perfect haven for guests interested in tours and skiruns. The little ski area is truly a hidden jewel.
Enjoy a rösti, a fondue and other local specialties at the restaurant "Mäderlicka". The friendly meeting place is located at the mountain station of the ski lift at 7200 feet. On your descent down to the Wasenalp we suggest you stop at the local restaurant – the "Wasenalp" is known in the region as the perfect ending place of a guided snowshoe tour through the area with its magnificent larch woods (the highest in Europe!). We are told the fondue there is legendary. After a stroll in the moonlight, lovers and romantics should spend the night in their own igloo (close to the restaurant of course). Blocks of snow and ice shield our guests from the frosty night.
