Sophie Taeuber-Arp was one of the most innovative artists of the twentieth century. She developed an individual and multi-faceted voice in painting and sculptures –as well as in textile crafts, puppetry, architecture and interior design. Her clear, non-figurative works are dedicated to the harmonization of shapes and colours and rhythm and balance - and consistently represent the school of concrete art.
Sophie Taeuber-Arp presented her works in numerous exhibitions, was a member of the international art association, active teacher for textile design work and also appeared as a dancer. She is the only woman illustrated on a Swiss banknote – her portrait is on the 50 franc banknote.
