With its headquarters in Laufen near Basel and subsidiary companies in Europe, Asia and the USA, Ricola manufactures around 30 different types of herbal treats. All Ricola products are produced 100% in Switzerland. The history of this family-owned company goes back to the 1930’s with the company being founded in 1930 by Emil Richterich as Richterich and Co. Laufen. The present company name is an abbreviation of these words.

This family-run business is committed to the highest standards of quality for the ingredients used and for their careful processing into the various herbal specialities. Ricola herbs are cultivated in the Swiss mountains using organic methods and without the use of pesticides and herbicides. These valuable herbs are produced to Ricola’s high standards by over 100 independent agricultural enterprises in the Valais, Emmental, Puschlav, the southern foothills of the Jura and in Central Switzerland.

Ricola stands for Swiss quality coupled with herbal expertise. The recipe for the famous Swiss herb drops is still a closely guarded secret. All we know are the names of the herbs used: plantain, lady's mantle, elder, mallow, peppermint, thyme, sage, cowslip, horehound, burnet, speedwell, marsh mallow and yarrow. And what’s more, there is something of the original in each Ricola herb drop. The magical 13-herb blend is the basis for each type of herb drop. These popular herbal specialities also include Ricola tea, which are available at retail outlets throughout Switzerland. Unique tasting, they do mouth and throat a power of good!
