Intro

The black Eringer cows return every fall from Alp Moiry to the sun-drenched Grimentz in Val d‘Anniviers. The colorful cattle descent is not only a feast for the eye, but also for the palate.

One hundred and twenty Eringer cows spend the summer on Alp Moiry. The small but strong animals conduct 1,000 battles amongst themselves. Most of the time they chew the juicy mountain herbs of the meadows located at up to 2,900 meters above sea level – and therefore supply very special milk to the dairymen. The tasty Alpine cheese produced from this milk is a rarity. You can taste this cheese at the festival celebrating the cattle descent in Grimentz and watch the cows parading through the picturesque center of this typical Valaisian village. It is a delightful experience to see the brown-black cows meandering among the dark wooden houses. The public, who are first shown the strongest and most beautiful animals, consists mostly of locals. Then follows the remaining entourage. If you have an additional desire for cheese, you can eat a portion of the creamy Valaisian Raclete accompanied by a glass of Fendant wine.
