The Niederhorn is considered to afford one of the finest viewing points in the Bernese Oberland. In perfect harmony, the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau dominate the magnificent mountain chain on the horizon, while down below Lake Thun shimmers in intense shades of blue. Facing this dream panorama, this winter high-altitude trail leads to Waldegg. Get to Beatenberg by post bus directly from Interlaken or by bus from Thun to Beatenbucht and from there take the funicular up to the elevated terrace; continue from Beatenberg by cable railway up the Niederhorn. The hike includes horizontal sections and also some slightly steeper downward passages. It is very enjoyable to toboggan down these sections (toboggans may be hired at the cable railway mountain station). The route runs through wooded areas and also across snowy meadows with lovely views. From Waldegg return by post bus to Interlaken or Beatenberg.
The careful planning of a tour will ensure that you also derive the maximum pleasure and enjoyment from it. Please take the time to contact the local information centre and enquire about route and weather conditions before setting off. Your intended trail may be fully or partially closed, depending on the time of year and weather conditions.
