From Col de Bretaye a broad and direct path leads the way up to the Roc d'Orsay in a pretty straight line. But those who want to climb the slope faster can skip this bit of the tour and opt for gondola-style rail departing from Villars instead (possible trips up from mid June until the end of August). The Chamossaire summit appears close enough to touch, and after just another 150-meters you reach the top – from where the unique panoramic views are shaped here by the Diablerets massif to the east and Dents du Midi looking south. Impressive are also the views over the Lake Geneva basin. In an easy-going descent a well prepared trail leads back down over the grass – and on reaching the foot of the Chamossaire a quick detour to visit the Lac des Chavonnes lake is worth every minute on viewing the trees and meadows that surround this idyllic mountain lake, the waters of which shimmer like a precious blue pearl. The restaurant on its shores is known for its delicious mushroom pastries. Two additional small lakes - the Lac Noir and the Lac de Bretaye – further embellish the path on the way back to Col de Bretaye.
The careful planning of a tour will ensure that you also derive the maximum pleasure and enjoyment from it. Please take the time to contact the local information centre and enquire about route and weather conditions before setting off. Your intended trail may be fully or partially closed, depending on the time of year and weather conditions.
