Hang-gliders know the Niederbauen mountain crest. But walkers seeking views and lovers of Tritt cheese often come up here too. There is already an unexpected view down to Lake Uri from the Hunds-Chopf, and an even more inspiring vista awaits you after the steep climb up to the Niederbauen Chulm.

Description

Seasoned summiteers skip the first 800 meters of the climb: the little blue gondolas gliding from Emmetten up to Alp Niederbauen are too tempting!

To avoid duplicating the route, the ascent via Hunds-Chopf is advisable. The flank up to the Gütsch (Niederbauen) is very steep, but the 200-meter height difference is quickly conquered. We follow the outer edge of the ridge on the right, with constant views down to Lake Uri and across to the Gotthard.

Niederbauen Chulm is a rewarding panoramic destination: Lake Lucerne with its many blue inlets at our feet, a jagged range of peaks in the east, the perfectly pyramidical Bristen to the south, Pilatus to the west and finally, Rigi to the north.

We descend via the "normal" route – a visit to the Tritt Alpine hut, with outstanding cheese and beverages, is a "must".
