The 45th week of the year is marked in red by movie fans - this is because now that the long November nights are upon us, it is time for the International Short Film Festival Winterthur. Switzerland’s most important festival devoted to the genre alone attracts about 15,000 people a year. Over the course of six days, about 200 films from all over the world are shown. At the heart of the Winterthur festival are five competitions: one is devoted to international projects, while another recognises the best Swiss short film of the year. The culmination of the festival is when the award ceremony is held on the Sunday evening at the Winterthur theatre with the winner of the contest being announced.
