Way back in the year 1200 pilgrims made their way up to the mountain summit on foot in order to pay their respects to the Son of God, who according to ancient legend took rest here afore his heavenly ascent. Since 1890 funicular rail has lent a hand with the 600 meter climb in altitude to the summit from Paradiso.

A clear view across southern Ticino can be enjoyed from the roof of the church on the summit of San Salvatore.

A particularly challenging via ferrata from the mid station, fossil and cave research museum, azalea gardens, Parco San Grato in Carona, as well as the notorious three-hour ridge hike to pretty Morcote, round up healthy adventure on the San Salvatore.

Special feature of the railway: one car in the lower section, another in the upper section; change at the Pazzallo middle station; one cable, no passing loop.
