Protecting and sheltering the small town of Murten for already 800
years, the almost intact town walls no longer keep out invaders, rather
welcome visitors into the town. Walk along the walls - the only
passable ring walls left in Switzerland - and admire the views of the
old town and the nearby lake.
Cover wonderful routes around the lake by bike, and discover the more
gentle side of the Swiss veloland trails. The only challenge on the
route is the short but steep 220m ascent of Mont Vully, but the effort
is well worth your while. Enjoy the 360° panorama from up above and the
fun descent back down to the lake. In the Roman town of Avenches,
explore 2,000 years of living history, starting with the unique
amphitheatre, where singers and musicians perform under the stars to
this day.
