The Ranft Gorge, created by the River Melchaa on its way from Melchsee-Frutt to Lake Alpnach, is quite deep and unpassable. For centuries, people needed to climb down one treacherous side to climb up the other. In 1893, a bridge was built over this gorge. it is 100 meters long and 100 meters high. This makes this covered wooden bridge connecting Kerns to Sachseln the highest wooden bridge in Europe.
The area is also well-known for a famous Swiss saint, Niklaus von der Flüe who was born in Flüeli-Ranft. To this day, the famous peace-maker's former home attracts tourists and pilgrims.

How to get there:
Drive or take public transportation from Luzern to Kerns, via Sarnen. The bridge is on one of the minor roads of Sachseln.
