Davos

People who are familiar with stones and rock formations will walk through the mountains as if they were reading a book on geology.

Since geology is a fairly complicated subject, any on-site information, especially when surrounded by fascinating nature, is especially welcomed by non-experts. The Geology Educational Trail - located in the Zügen Gorge located between Davos-Monstein and Wiesen – is a prime example of the exciting depiction of geological development. The old valley road (closed to car traffic) leads in shade through the narrow, deep valley cutting, becoming evermore narrow, steep and gorge-like. Every once in a while there are flashes of red high above the tree tops and heads of visitors: this is the Rhaetian Railway, which conquers the gorge by passing across viaducts and through tunnels. “Bärentritt” marks the end of the educational trail, but the hiking trail continues through the ruggedly-romantic gorge all the way to Filisur via Wiesen, and along a nature trail.
