At the lowest point of the gorge you will find the Schüss River, which originates in St. Immertal and after flowing through the chain of lakes in the Jura flows into Lake Biel. Parts of the Taubenloch Gorge have been protected as a nature conservation area since 1927.
On Foot at the River
The hiking trail through the rugged Taubenloch Gorge, which is very narrow deep down along the riverbed of the Schüss, can be easily reached by bus starting at the Biel Railway Station: Ride in the direction of the “Icerink” up to the Taubenloch bus stop. The entrance to the adventure trail is at the restaurant “Zum wilden Mann”. At Frinvillier a train takes visitors back to Biel. Or vice versa. The hike takes 35 minutes. The complete tour takes about one hour.
