Description
Between gigantic, wedged rock boulders, the roaring water masses find their way into the valley. They create a pleasant noise that accompanies the hiker on the first part of his hike to Engelberg. Thanks to the pleasant, cool spray of the Engelberger Aa and the shady forest, the Aa Gorge is an unforgettable hiking experience even on a hot day.
Near Obermatt you will find the local power station adjacent to the former railway station for the trains to Engelberg... today the Central Railwat no longer runs on the steep cogwheel ramp, but through a 4-kilometer long tunnel.
In the lower section of the gorge an excellent barbecue station invites you to grill some savory snacks.
After a rain storm in 2005 the trail had to be rebuilt.
