The Bernese Alps spread out before you

Beatenberg

The Niederhorn near Beatenberg is a very special mountain. While its northwest flank is a precipitous wall of rock, its gently sloping alpine meadows and extensive forests to the southeast provide a perfect setting for Beatenberg’s very own winter sports arena. In winter, the descent from the Niederhorn to Waldegg is one long panorama show with the glorious Bernese Alps spread out before you every inch of the way. The Eiger, Münch and Jungfrau loom so large, it is as if you could reach out and touch them. The snowy summit of the Brienzer Rothorn can be seen glinting in the sun to the east, while down below in the valley, Lake Thun will look dark and ominous under the shadows cast by the mighty peaks above. The route starts off along the mountain ridge and then drops down in several stages to Waldegg.
