Situated in a favourable location, Coldrerio has a long history. The discovery of precious prehistoric relics, found in peat deposits, show the existence of a Neolithic settlement.
Several important agricultural estates are found here, including the canton farm of Mezzana (which extends partially into the territory of Balerna) and the Colle degli Ulivi, which is almost entirely covered with grapevines.
Among its best known inhabitants we must mention the Mola Family, especially the painter Pier Francesco, who was among the protagonists during Ticino’s political dissension in the 19th century.
