This village is perched on a rise of Monte Bisbino and overlooks Chiasso.
It was first mentioned in the 14th century, but was certainly inhabited by hill-folk before then. Thanks to its desirable location, some families chose to leave the plains in the second half of the 20th century and build new homes here.
A number of well known figures were born in the village: the Fontanas, who distinguished themselves as theologians and educators, the painters Spinelli, Suà and Chiesa, as well as Ticino’s most important writer and poet, Francesco Chiesa.
