Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880-1938) lived in Davos from 1917 until his death. His great work is considered to have exercised a pioneering influence on German expressionism. The Kirchner Museum was opened in September 1992 and represents the most comprehensive collection of the artist's work in the world. The museum building was designed by two Zürich architects: Annette Gigon and Mike Guyer. Its unadorned yet clearly articulated style is held in high esteem in international architectural circles.
