Historisches Museum Baden
Overview
Intro
The History Museum is dedicated to the history of the city and region of Baden. The museum runs guided tours and workshops for schools and groups, and organises true-to-life exhibitions and family events.
There is a ramp in this prominent new building that transports you back into the past as you enter a large area by the river with significant Roman finds, city models, photographs, and many other documents and objects that throw light on the history of local industry and of the baths. The historic rooms in the Governor’s Castle bear witness to Baden’s role as the official meeting place for the council of the Swiss Confederacy, and to how the ruling classes did as they pleased, and what their relationship with their subjects was like. The museum also focuses on the change to civil society, the Jewish emancipation in the 19th century, and life in a modern town in the 1930s.
