Description
The tour continues via the Gotthard Pass to Airolo. On the summit of the pass (2109m) is the Gotthard Museum, which depicts the development of the pass and of transit traffic. From the Gotthard Mountain one can reach Airolo on two different routes. The expressway runs below galleries, whereas the old Tremola Pass Road is paved with cobblestones and leads downward in hairpin bends.
From Airolo one travels through the Val Bedretto valley to the Nufenen Pass and from here in wide bends to Ulrichen and Gletsch, and further over the Grimsel Pass to Meiringen. Grimsel is a landscape defined by ancient rocks and elemental forces. This old pass road at the cantonal border between Bern and Valais and the watershed of the North Sea and the Mediterranean offers mountain adventures ranging from easy walks to climbing a vertical granite mountain face.
From Meiringen, the tour leads alongside Lake Brienz to Interlaken, which is located between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. Interlaken – at the foot of the towering trio of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau – is a vacation and congress destination of international repute and an ideal starting point for innumerable excursions.
The journey continues via Spiez on Lake Thun through the Simmen Valley to Gstaad, the destination of this tour. The holiday region Gstaad-Saanenland in the Bernese Oberland offers an interesting mix of visitors. In addition to many stars and starlets in the chalet village of Gstaad, the small neighboring villages offer attractive tour package for families with children.
