Running direct from the centre of Lausanne, the Lausanne - Echallens - Bercher line, nicknamed 'La Brouette' (slow train), runs through the Vaudois countryside with its meadows and fields. You can find out more about the wheat grown here at the Maison du Blé et du Pain in Echallens.
According to the timetable, the "Vapeur du Gros-de-Vaud" steam train (which runs almost every Sunday from June to September) uses this route and travels through the Vaudois countryside at the leisurely speed of 30 km/h.
