The Enge peninsula north of the city of Bern has been known for more than 200 years as a discovery site of Roman artifacts. In the 20th century excavations took place again and again. At around 100 BC at the latest, the Helvetians occupied the Swiss Mittelland; one of the largest settlements was found on the Enge peninsula.
