The Schloss Werdenberg castle is located on a long and narrow hilltop overlooking the town of Werdenberg and is reached via a footpath. The citadel with late medieval castle, courtyard and outhouses was founded in 1230 by Graf Rudolf 1st from Montfort has been open to the public since 1956. The museum displays mainly the private residence of the Hilty family as it changed ownership in 1956, on being handed over to the canton of St Gallen. And of course various tours permit visitors to immerse in the past!
