His large body of work is considered a groundbreaking achievement of German Expressionism. The Kirchner Museum was opened in 1992. It is home to the world's largest collection of the artist's work. The museum building was designed by the Zürich architects Annette Gigon and Mike Guyer. In its simple but powerful form it continues to attract great attention in architectural circles.
