Segantini's early work is indebted to traditional Lombard painting. His move to the Alps with their clear atmosphere enabled the artist to develop a light-filled painting technique. The most important painting from his late period is the large-scale alpine triptych "Nature – Life – Death" ("La natura – La vita – La morte"), which is exhibited in the domed room (Kuppelsaal) at the Segantini Museum.
