Tram-Museum Zurich

Zurich

It’s just like Zurich to boast Switzerland’s only tram museum. The historic Depot Burgwies is home to the collection, up to twenty original cars, the eldest dating back to 1897. It also features an exhibit on the development and workings of the Zurich tram.

And getting there is half the fun: on your way to the Tram Museum you can experience your grandparents’ mobility on the Museum Line along the Bahnhofstrasse and Limmatquai to Burgwies, with rolling stock from the Museum’s collection! Young and old will enjoy the model tramway with its long-vanished specimens.

If you are interested in transportation history and especially rail travel this is a hidden gem that most people over look. On our last trip to Zurich we spent over a half a day looking at all of the trams on display as well as the interactive displays and play area for children. Even a maintenance pit is available so one can really see what makes the Zurich trams work.
