The dark stone pines, to which the nature reserve owes its status as a protected area, are reflected in the Lower Murg Lake. It is here that you will find the largest stone pine forests in the Northern Alps. Alpine bogs, moorland meadows, sparse forests, and waterfalls are steady companions on your hike to the Upper Murg Lakes at the base of Mt. Schwarzstöckli. Just above the tree line is the charmingly rustic inn "Murgsee", overlooking the lake. It is a good place for taking a break before descending into the valley.
