Freewheel on a rentabike almost all the way from Airolo and Biasca. Let
the bike do the work on the 858m and 40 km of descent from the
mountainous southern side of the Gotthard to the palm trees of Biasca.
True water rats can then transfer to canoes on the banks of the River Ticino - then let the gentle current of the river take them peacefully through the Levantina. Go with the flow - there's no need to paddle!
At such a leisurely pace, you will almost certainly have some energy left over to discover Switzerland's most Italianate town, with its three mighty mediaeval castles, Castelgrande, Sasso Corbaro and Montebello. Stroll along the fortifications connecting the towers, and discover old secrets - and of course shady grottos too!
