The hike leads at times right along the Albula, at times high above the river - uphill and downhill on an 8-kilometers trail with a total vertical drop of 400 m from the Albula tunnel in Preda to Bergün. At the most interesting points the route of the train is explained on markers, and schedules inform you when the next train departs. The Railroad History Trail is especially maintained so that if can be hiked by everybody. Naturally, the use of good hiking boots is imperative for all mountain hiking tours. It is an ideal excursion for families, school classes and group tours
Other attraction: The Albula Valley is the starting point for myriad excursions and adventures in this region. Alvaneu boasts a golf course. The spa resort of Bad Alveneu is known for its sulfur springs.
For families: After the hiking tour, a visit to the local museum in Bergün is a worthwhile stop. It features a model train installation (scale of 1:87) and a replica of the stretch between Preda and Bergün. Open from the beginning of June to the end of October and Mid-December to Easter, Tuesday and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Monday.
