In the heart of the forest is an idyllic small lake, popular with locals for swimming, relaxation, picnics, and delicious meals in the restaurant of the adjacent Auberge. Close by stands the spectacular Sauvabelin Tower, a dizzy timber construction that coils 35 metres into the sky. Its spiral staircase was inspired by the celebrated helical construction in the Château de Chambord in France, said to be the work of Leonardo da Vinci.
