DOC Merlot

The story of this grape is a story with a happy ending. Although it all began with a catastrophe: Towards the end of the 19th century the Ticinese vintners had to stand by helplessly as the wine pest, grape phylloxera, destroyed almost all of the region’s vines. After many unsuccessful attempts to grow a hardier vine, vintners finally tried the merlot vine from Bordeaux in 1906. This vine adapted beautifully to the Ticinese climate. Today, over 100 years later, the ruby-red, well-balanced wine with the elegant ivy taste is number one among Ticino’s wines.
