Description
If you want to go up high, you must first pass below. The trip from the fashionable resort of Zermatt to Blauherd (2571m) takes place underground with the funicular railway to Sunnegga. The cableway however negotiates the last few metres of the ascent with panoramic views.
In summer a veritable traveller's paradise unfolds in beautiful mountain scenery from here. Surrounded by gigantic peaks and with the most photographed mountain in the world, the Matterhorn, always in sight, this hike is a classic that runs past Lake Stelli, Lake Grindji and Lake Grüen, past the moraine of the Findelen glacier and two hours later to Riffelalp.
A rewarding route without any major climbs and descents, it charms the hiker with its phenomenal mountain views and excellent opportunities to stop off for refreshments. Those bold enough might even venture into the crystal clear and icy Lake Grüen for a swim
