The high Alpine trek begins in Locarno and winds up in a remote mountain hotel at the foot of the Basodino Glacier seven days later. Along the way, one expereinces many different cultures and changes in temperatures and seasons.
The ambitious tour basically cuts due North from its starting point, starting at the subtropical Isola di Brissago, cutting through the Centovalli, Valle Onsernone, Valle di Campo, Valle di Bosco, Cazzola-Pass, Pian di Crest, Val Formazza (Italy) and re-enters Switzerland at Bochetta di Valle Maggia to end at Robiei.
While it is not an easy tour, it is well worth the effort. Along the way one works one's way from palm trees to vineyards, chestnut groves, alps, karst landscapes, and ultimately winds up on eternal snow fields. As the crow flies, it is only 35 km but it is worlds apart. A superb trek for well-trained hikers
