The Monte Rosa Tour takes you along clearly marked footpaths deep into the mountains and to the top of some of the most beautiful mountains with summits surpassing the 4,000m above sea level mark. The 160 km distance (of which 86 km are on the Valais side and the other 74 km are in the Piemont and Aosta region) is divided into 8 stages and includes 7 mountain passes. Its highest summit, the Dufourspitze (4,634m above sea level), is Switzerland's highest summit and was first climbed in 1855. Europe's highest restaurant is situated on the mountain's 4,554 meter high signalling mound. The Monte Rosa east face is said to be the most imposing rock wall of the Alps. The name originates from an extinct Romance language and means glacier. The Swiss side of the massif can be viewed from the Gornergrat. This walking tour takes 4 days and is suitable for very experienced walkers only.
