Simplon Pass was an important Pass Crossing connecting the Valais to Northern Italy as early as the Middle Age. The renowned merchant Kaspar von Stockalper used the route for his transactions, as did Napoleon later on. Description

The ridge path from Simplon Pass to Simplon village starts at the legendary hospice and then for the most part follows the left valley flank going South. After a short ascent a magnificent view with the glaciated peaks of Fletschhorn in the center is revealed. From here to Homatta the hiking trail leads through extensive meadows with Alpine roses and many other mountain flowers. After reaching the valley floor at Egga and crossing the river, the hiking trail runs more or less along the raging torrent of the river all the way down to Simplon village.
