Yet even for the most hard-boiled hiker, the Matterhorn is still the mountain to end all mountains. Majestic in appearance, more photogenic than any other peak in the Alps, it invariably attracts attention to itself as if by magic. This winter hike from Sunnegga to the picturesque village of Findeln and from there down to cosmopolitan Zermatt has its sights trained squarely on the 4478-m-high summit so that you get to see the Matterhorn looking its very best every inch of the way.
