Elm

On March 12 and 13 and on September 30 and October 1, the sun shines through the Martinsloch (Martin's Hollow) above Elm and illuminates the spire of the church. These images regularly appear in the press and contribute to Elm's fame.

Description

At the end of the 18th century, life was less serene here. In rapid succession Austrian, French and Russian troops came into the valley. The Russians, not used to the mountains, retreated in those days before the French via the Panixertal Valley to the Sern Valley.

Elm – Matt – Engi – Schwanden

The fifteen kilometer Suworow Trail is perfectly marked. It always follows the lively Sernf River, at times on the right bank, at times on the left. The Steinbogenbrücke, an arched stone bridge and a protected monument, crosses the trail at Engi. Buses of the Sernftal bus company link Elm with Schwanden. If you consider the fifteen kilometer distance to be too long, you can board the bus (or disembark) in Engi - at the entrance to the village or at the end, as well as in Matt.
