Description
Marthalen – Radhof – Rheinau – monastery – Ellikon – Hummenberg – Marthalen
From Marthalen the hiking tour leads to the Radhof and then through the forest to Rheinau. The monastery church is situated on an island in the river loop. Hiking down along the river you will reach the former fishing village of Ellikon, where the straight course of the river Thur reaches its first bend. The trail now leads up through the vineyard to the Hummenberg vantage point and finally back to Marthalen.
The baroque church of the Rheinau monastery and the covered wooden bridge at Schwaderloch are prominent architectural attractions. The pastures near Thurspitz at the confluence of Thur and Rhine is a nature reserve of national importance. The ferryboat at Ellikon allows a detour into Germany.
