Description
Eggberge – Rietlig – Biel – Äbnet – Heidmanegg - Klausenpass
A panoramic route with many high points but hardly any difference in height. This is a classic hiking tour from Eggberge on the sunny side of the Schächen Valley to the Klausen Pass. While the only major ascent leads through woodlands, the subsequent hike takes place on the tree-less sunny slope, called "sonnenhalb" by the locals. The opposite side of the valley, called "schattenhalb" (shady) is uninhabited, densely forested and defined by steep rocks and crevices. Only high above that side of the valley, the "Sommeralpen", or Summer Alps, are to be found. If you hike in the direction of the Klausen Pass, you will encounter a magnificent panorama: The peaks of Gross Windgällen, Gross Ruchen, Griesstock, Schärhorn, with its two peaks, and Clariden.
This is a very hot region in summer, please take along sufficient sun protection and beverages.
