Description
On the Breitenalp in bygone days the fierce Lord of Starkenstein wrought his mischief. But the traces of his deeds are long gone and blissful peace now reigns on this idyllic Alp, especially in the winter. Now all that reminds us of this once feared tyrant is a colourful wooden plaque. Along with eleven other stations, it forms part of the Toggenburg Story Trail. On the trail you will enjoy stories from this region’s treasure trove of legends that appeal to both young and old alike. The Story Trail is located on the plateau between the valley floor and the Churfirsten, and along the way you can admire the magnificent view of the Säntis and the Churfirsten range. The Alp Sellamatt is the starting point and this may be reached by cable railway from Alt St. Johann. The Story Trail gently inclines upwards, first to the Mittelstofel and then on to the Thurtalerstofel. From there it goes in a loop down to the Breitenalp before reaching the Alp Sellamatt via the Mittelstofel.
