Description
The car-free Val Roseg is rated as one of the Engadin’s prettiest side valleys. This broad valley stretches southwest from Pontresina to the high Alpine glaciers and is bordered by a range of icy three to four thousand metre high mountain peaks. The valley has remained largely unspoilt. The only ones that are out and about in the wintertime are the hikers and cross-country skiers – and, of course, the chamois and roe deer. After setting out from Pontresina station it is only a few steps before you are surrounded by the vastness and solitude of the Val Roseg. With the trail rising gently, you pass the Acla Colani and the Prüma and Seguonda Alps before arriving at the Hotel Roseg-Gletscher at the back of the valley. A culinary stopover here comes highly recommended and those with a sweet tooth will rave about the offerings at the legendary cake buffet at the restaurant. Return to Pontresina on the winter hiking trail - or if you are in a mood for something particularly stylish and romantic - on one of the scheduled horse-drawn sleighs.
