Description
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s most impressive paintings include the ones he painted in Davos. These are noted for their veritable ecstasy of colour. The great expressionist’s life and work are inextricably linked to the landscape of the Landwasser Valley. Kirchner received significant inspiration while on the Stafelalp. Here the sunny mountain terrace affords a wonderful panoramic view of the Davos mountains. This beautiful winter trail meanders up from the valley through the forest. The hike starts at the Davos Frauenkirch railway station. Each summer, an international sculptors’ symposium is held on the Stafelalp. The sculptures created at this time then line the path to the Alp thus enabling passers-by to engage with contemporary art forms in an exciting way. This winter hike has the rustic Berghaus Stafelalp inn as its destination. Return to the valley along your ascent route. At the end, a visit to the nearby Kirchner Museum in Davos Platz comes highly recommended.
