Description
The discovery trail from Mont Soleil to Mont Crosin, or vice versa, leads you through fantastic Jurassic landscapes. Magnificent views alternate with interesting sites relevant to energy production. On Mont Soleil is Switzerland's largest solar power station. On Mont Crosin, on the other hand, wind is used to produce energy. The power station's propeller supplies current to 600 households. The path is well maintained even in winter and is frequently parallel to the cross-country skiing trails.
From the train station in St. Imier just follow the mountain railroad sign or the funicular sign. Take the cableway up to Mont Soleil. From the mountain station take the trail past Restaurant Le Manoir and follow the brown signposts of Sentier découverte . From the summit turn sharp right to the solar power station (always along thetrail with the signs of Sentier découverte). Subsequently, pass the solarpower station hiking on the side of the mountain. At Centrale éoliennes (wind power station) continue to follow the brown signs. You will reach Mont Crosin. Hiking past Restaurant Vert Bois you will get to the main street, which is serviced by buses. In case Vert Bois is closed, you will find Châlet Mont Crosin150 meters down the mountain.
