In winter, when the Swiss Mittelland seems to be stuck under a high blanket of persistent fog, the elevated terrace at Sainte-Croix and Les Rasses becomes a coveted refuge for sun-starved urbanites. These two villages in the Vaud Jura lie at the southern foot of the Chasseron mountains. On a clear day you can enjoy a truly panoramic view that stretches from Säntis to Mont Blanc. Just getting here is an experience in itself. The narrow-gauge railway from Yverdon twists and turns as it wends its way upwards. Located right next to the last stop at the Sainte-Croix station, the CIMA Music Box and Nickelodeon Museum is well worth a visit. The museum strikingly documents how the area developed into a centre for precision engineering. Now, take the bus to Les Rasses/village where the hiking trail starts. With a negligible gradient, this route takes you across snowy Jura pastures to the hamlet of Les Cluds and then back to Les Rasses.
The careful planning of a tour will ensure that you also derive the maximum pleasure and enjoyment from it. Please take the time to contact the local information centre and enquire about route and weather conditions before setting off. Your intended trail may be fully or partially closed, depending on the time of year and weather conditions.
