Although the Davos Klosters snow sports arena can be very busy and crowded, there are also some very tranquil spots here as well. The village of Monbiel is just such an oasis of peace. Located in the municipality of Klosters, it is the highest year-round inhabited settlement in the Prättigau. Even today, this Walser village has a distinctly rural atmosphere. To get to Monbiel, catch the bus from Klosters. The narrow road into the valley is car-free in the winter and is only used by hikers – and by nostalgic horse-drawn sleighs. The cleared winter hiking trail ascends gently to the Alp Pardenn before continuing on to the Alp Garfiun. The final section before the mountain hut is somewhat steeper. Here you are rewarded with a magnificent panorama and the chance to fortify yourself at the cosy mountain restaurant. Return to Monbiel either on foot along the hiking trail or by horse-drawn sleigh. And if you still wish to extend your hike, the trail continues to Klosters.
The careful planning of a tour will ensure that you also derive the maximum pleasure and enjoyment from it. Please take the time to contact the local information centre and enquire about route and weather conditions before setting off. Your intended trail may be fully or partially closed, depending on the time of year and weather conditions.
