Towering above the holiday resort of Engelberg are several mighty peaks, first and foremost among them the 3238-m-high Titlis. To the southeast of the village there is the Hahnen and to the north the precipitous face of the Gerschniberg that separates the Trübsee plateau from that of Gerschnialp. This very pleasant winter hike takes you from Engelberg up to Gerschnialp and from there to Untertrübsee, where you can enjoy some superb views of the mountains on all sides of the valley. The tour ends with a visit to Engelberg Monastery.
Engelberg - Gerschnialp - Untertrübsee - Gerschnialp - Engelberg
At Engelberg railway station, set off along the trail to Gerschnialp. The climb up to Gerschnialp begins at Bänklialp Bridge. Once you are up on the Alp, simply follow the trail to Untertrübsee, which is the turning point of the tour. For your return journey, follow the same route back to Schlegi and from there walk on to Gerschnialp station, where there is a trail leading past Gerschnialp Restaurant and back down to Engelberg.
The careful planning of a tour will ensure that you also derive the maximum pleasure and enjoyment from it. Please take the time to contact the local information centre and enquire about route and weather conditions before setting off. Your intended trail may be fully or partially closed, depending on the time of year and weather conditions.
