Winter Walk around Kandersteg

Kandersteg

Kandersteg has garnered an important place in railroad history, especially as the northern portal of the Lötschberg Tunnel. Since the opening of the Lötschberg base tunnel, traffic has become a little quieter, but for tourists and locals there still is a train running on the attractive mountain route. Mighty peaks surround the town of Kandersteg. The prominent rock formation of the Bire is vying for attention with the majestic massif of the Blüemlisalp.

On the eastern side of the valley, the Bunderspitz skirts the narrow valley. Towards the south, the rocky promontory of the Gällihore attracts everyone’s attention. Crystal clear and icecold, the young Kander River bubbles through the valley. These are ideal conditions for restorative winter walking.
