Description

Following the descent at Ameismühle you can enjoy peace and fresh air in the moist shade of Galtern gorge. Massive, vertical rock faces line the narrow gorge. Footbridges or wooden stairs, solidly constructed but narrow, take you along bubbling wells and tuff rocks overgrown with moss through the roaring noise of the Galtern brook to the fish farm, which is located at the Fribourg end of the valley.

The hike coincides with a nature trail; approximately 40 trees and shrubs are labelled in German, French and Latin. After refreshments from “Les trois canards” pub you will proceed with new energy to Fribourg downtown, from where you can return to the starting point via Bürgeln, the woods above the gorge.
Public transports are an alternative way to return to the starting point.

Hiking time: Tafers - Fribourg, 1 hour

The careful planning of a tour will ensure that you also derive the maximum pleasure and enjoyment from it. Please take the time to contact the local information centre and enquire about route and weather conditions before setting off. Your intended trail may be fully or partially closed, depending on the time of year and weather conditions.
